Different between Coaching and Therapy

Jill Kennedy-Broughton describes ....

COACHING versus THERAPY

Coaching ...
*  Focuses on actions and the Future
*  Assumes client is whole and capable of having a wonderful life
*  Client sees coach as a partner of equals to support their growth and efforts in order to create an even better life than they have now
*  Coach is responsible for the process; client is responsible for the results
*  Works to move people to a higher level of functioning.
*  Works for external solutions to overcome barriers, learn new skills and implement effective choices
*  Works with the conscious mind

In summary ... process, potential, purpose, and present to future.

Therapy ...
*  Focuses on feelings and Past events
*  Assumes client needs healing; explores the root of problems
*  Clients view therapist as the expert who holds the answers and technique to fix their problems
*  Therapist is responsible for the process direction and the outcome
*  Works with people to achieve self-understanding and emotional healing
*  Works for internal resolution of pain and to let go of old patterns
*  Works to bring the unconscious into consciousness  (From Vivian:  This can also be done with hypnosis)
In summary .... pain, problems, past
