To move forward in something that has been put off for too long

Do you have that something, that you have been putting off, that needs to get done or you need to accomplish ?

If you have several, for now, what was the first thing that came to your mind, when I asked the question ?

Procrastination.  All of us do it, however, some of us do it, like it’s a career !

It could be as simples as cleaning the bathroom or the garage or much larger as, get your masters degree or looking for that new job.

Many things can take place when you procrastinate !

1.    Miss deadline

2.    Continue to build up with stress

3.    Anger or frustrate others

4.    Make the issue bigger, literally and mentally !

First step, ask yourself, why are you putting it off ?

Could be just pure laziness !  Or can’t find the necessary time !

Could be financial !

Could be fear of change or fear of handling the task !

Could you not know what it is ?  Maybe it’s subconscious !

Whatever it is, being by taking baby steps !

Example.

If it’s laziness, than why not, try handling the task during commercials of your favorite show or movie !  Best of both worlds !

If it’s financial, start by figuring out, where might you get some additional money. Save more ?

If fear, make a list of what you are afraid of !  Next step, begin talking to yourself.  Fear, though real and should not be minimized, you can receive help of fear with a life coach.  Or with self-help, you can either learn to begin talking to yourself, and choosing to minimize the fear, or , you can make a list of what is the worst that “could” happen !  Other than maybe death (or maybe you think of others), hopefully your list will prove not to be as big as you thought it was !

The next step in making baby steps, is making a list, of all the steps, to get to your goal, even if it’s cleaning the bathroom, that you keep putting off.  You have to start somewhere, even if it is a simple task !

Then put each step on a calendar, of when you will get it done.  Such as, I will clean the bathroom every Monday night after work !  Or, I will clean the toilet on Monday, the sink on Tues, the floor on Wednesday, and the tub on Thursday.  Breaking the task up in smaller pieces, won’t make it so big !

Or the Garage.  One forth of the garage, per Saturday.  But again, you must be committed, or it could take you all year !

Or you masters degree.  One class a semester to include summer !

Remember, you must make yourself accountable and responsible.  Just like loosing weight; if you say you are going to do it, you need to do it !

And if you need additional help, reach out to a life coach !
